Dog Walking is a Perfect First Business Venture for Kids!

Dog walking is fun, a way to earn some pocket money, and it helps pets stay happy and healthy. And it’s perfect for kids who love animals!

My ten year old daughter, Ana, has been loving setting up her new dog walking business lately.

Here are a few of her thoughts and tips in her own words!

“OMG hi! My name is Ana, and I have the coolest group in the whole world. It’s called the Sassy Polished Pup Patrol!

It’s me, my best friends, and of course, our dogs.

The captain of the group is my dog Foxy. She’s a pitbull mix and the BEST dog ever. She’s strong, smart, and also really funny because sometimes she just lays in the grass like she’s a queen.

I call her “Captain Queen Foxy” sometimes, and she wags her tail like she knows it’s true.

We made the Patrol because we love walking our dogs together and making it extra special.

We don’t just walk, we strut like it’s a parade! People stop to watch us, and sometimes they even clap. It’s like we’re famous.

And yes, we paint our dogs’ nails with safe polish so they look AMAZING. Foxy always gets purple nails because she’s the captain, and purple is totally a captain color.”

Patrol Time With My Dog Foxy

“One day, my friends couldn’t join because school had started back up. At first, I thought it would be too boring to patrol alone.

But Foxy looked at me with her big brown eyes, like she was saying, “We’ve got this.” So off we went.

Even with just one dog, it felt like a parade. People waved, and one person even called out, “There goes the polished pup!” Foxy strutted like a boss with her Steelers collar jingling!

Sometimes I call her Potato, because she’s a little chunky, but she’s still the queen of our Patrol.

At the park, I tried throwing a stick, but Foxy rolled on her back instead, like she was sunbathing at the beach.

She’s not a ‘fetch’ dog at all. But that’s okay, because just being out together makes it fun.”

Making Official Rules Up for My Business!

“Since it was just me and Foxy that day, I decided our Patrol needed rules. So I wrote them down with my glitter pen. Here they are:

  1. Captain Foxy always walks in front. Leaders lead!
  2. Nails must be polished. No boring nails allowed.
  3. Every walk needs a cheer. “Go Patrol Go!” is our favorite.
  4. Dogs can take breaks whenever they want. Rolling in the grass totally counts.
  5. Humans must bring snacks AND dog treats. Cheese sticks and pretzels for me, bone treats for Foxy.
  6. Smile and wave when people watch, because we’re awesome!

When I read them out loud, Foxy’s ears perked up at the word “treats,” so I know she approves!”

A Mom’s Perspective

Isn’t Ana’s Patrol the cutest?!

It shows how kids can turn a simple dog walking business into something joyful, creative and full of personality.

It can also teach your child responsibility, financial management and marketing skills.

If your child wants to start something like this, a few key resources can make the experience smoother, safer, and more professional.

  • Hands-free dog leash system for kids and teens to manage dogs safely
  • Reflective harness set for extra visibility on evening walks
  • Portable water bottle with built-in dog bowl for hydration on the go
  • Durable treat pouch with training clicker to reward good behavior
  • Dog nail polish kit that’s safe and washable for fun extras like Ana’s Patrol
