Birthday at Great Wolf Lodge – Why We Skip Parties and Go for the Splash
Great Wolf Lodge is a place full of excitement and fun for both kids and adults alike! Whether you’re diving into the indoor water park, grabbing a bite at one of the restaurants, mining for gems, or winding down at bedtime story time with the Great Wolf characters, there’s truly something for everyone to enjoy. Being homeschoolers we get to enjoy this place through the school year and on weekdays when it”s not as crowded!
If you’re anything like my family, we absolutely love using Great Wolf as a birthday experience instead of throwing a traditional party. It takes the pressure off planning, decorating, and cleaning—and instead, we just get to soak up the fun, memories, and quality time together. Plus, the birthday packages they offer make your little one feel so special with room decorations, a birthday cake, and even wolf ears or a special surprise.
If you are anything like us we do our best to sav as much as we can when we come to Great wolf Lodge as it’s already expensive! One of the big things that we do is we decorate the room ourselves! One parent tells the kids we are going to explore the hotel while the other waits for the room to be ready. Once the kids are off exploring I take the decorations and sneak to the room.

Carry Your Furry Friend
We all know kids never want to leave their new toys! Bringing along stuffed animals in a little carry bag makes trips to Great Wolf Lodge so much smoother for both kids and parents. Instead of worrying about leaving their favorite furry friend behind in the hotel room or worse, misplacing it somewhere in the busy waterpark, kids can keep their special buddy close by in an easy-to-carry bag. I really love the backpack or the sling as it’s easy for kids to carry and cuter than a plastic bag. This way, they still have the comfort of their stuffed animal during all the fun, but parents don’t have to stress about it getting lost in the excitement. It’s a simple solution that keeps everyone happy and worry-free while making memories together.
I also bought some decorations in mermaid and donut themes as that’s what the Birthday girl picked for her celebration this year! I really enjoy making the room magical and getting to do something different than what all the other kids get when a parent buys a Birthday package from the hotel.

We bought a mermaid cake, mini donuts and the girls had a blast digging into all of it when they got into the room! Between the presents & the desserts the girls were busy enough to give us adults time to relax from the drive before heading down to the water park! The deserts looked so delicious that we joined the girls in snacking too!
The Birthday girl got some clothes, jewelry, a sticker sketch book, a new game and a mermaid blanket! We made sure to add a few gifts that each of the girls got so no one felt left out! Those were the swaddle babies stuffed animal (this eliminated the need for Build-a-bear in the hotel as they were already in love with their stuffies), goggles for the pool and a goodie bag filled with trinkets and candy.

You can easily stretch the celebration across multiple days by arriving early and staying late to maximize your waterpark time without paying for extra nights. Bring snacks and drinks from home to save even more, and enjoy the free daily activities like crafts, dance parties, pajama story time, and character meet-and-greets.
The waterpark takes up so much of the day it’s hard to even squeeze the other activities in so saving as much money as you can on all the extra stuff is definitely the way to go! Honestly, it’s one of our favorite family traditions now—and the kids talk about it all year long
