How 10-Year-Old Ana Turned an Online Safety Lesson Into a Positive
My Roblox Lesson: Why I Don’t Talk to Strangers Online
Hi, my name is Ana! I want to tell you a story about something that happened to me on Roblox. (It’s called Roblox just in case you don’t know what it is! )
One day, I thought it would be funny and exciting to have a “Roblox boyfriend.” At first, it just seemed like a silly little game thing, and I didn’t really think it was a big deal. But then my parents found out. Uh oh! I got in big trouble. Roblox was taken away from me for a while, and I was really sad because it’s one of my favorite games. I love building, playing obbys, and just exploring fun worlds, so not being able to play was the worst.

But during that time away from Roblox, I learned something super important. People on Roblox (and anywhere online, really) are strangers. Even if they act nice, or type funny things in the chat, we don’t actually know who they really are. My mom and dad explained to me that people online can pretend to be anyone. That really stuck with me because I realized they could be lying about everything. It made me think, “Wow, I don’t want to talk to strangers I can’t see in real life.”
Eventually, I earned back Roblox after showing my parents I could follow rules better. Now I can play again, but with new rules that keep me safe. I’m allowed to play in servers with other people, but I don’t talk to them at all. No typing in the chat, no pretending to be friends with random players, nothing like that. I only play with people I really know in real life, like my family or my actual friends. That way, it’s safe but still lots of fun.
And you know what’s kind of crazy? If I never got Roblox taken away, I don’t think I would’ve ever thought of making my dog walking group S.P.P.P. (Sassy Polished Pup Patrol)! Since I couldn’t play online, I had to think of new things to do, and that’s when the idea came to me. Foxy, my Pitbull mix, is the captain of S.P.P.P. because she’s the sassiest one in the group. She doesn’t like running or toys, and she’s kind of a fat potato, but she loves walking around with me and being the boss. I decorated her with a girly purple-and-tan headband so she looks official and cute at the same time. Foxy takes her job very seriously, even if half the time she’s just licking her paws on the couch and making my mom’s spot all wet.
So even though losing Roblox was really hard at first, something good came out of it. It gave me more time to hang out with Foxy, go outside, and come up with something fun and creative. Now I have my very own pup patrol group, and honestly, that feels even better than pretending to have a Roblox boyfriend ever did.
It was a little embarrassing to get in trouble, but I’m glad it happened because it taught me two big lessons: staying safe online is more important than being “cool” in a game, and sometimes when one door closes, another one opens.

Foxy is my pitbull mix and my emotional support animal. She’s the captain of S.P.P.P. (Sassy Polished Pup Patrol) and takes her job very seriously (even though she’s a fat potato ). Her favorite colors are purple and tan, and she loves to lick her paws on the couch in my mom’s spot (sorry, Mom!). She also loves my stuffie “Daddy Bear” , which my dad gave me. She always picks me over my mom (hehe ) and I love her so much!
