A Simple & Faith-Filled Homeschool Day in Our Life

Looking for a simple homeschool routine that blends academics and faith? Here’s a sample homeschool schedule packed with Bible study, journaling, and core subjects—perfect for Christian families.

Some days in our homeschool are more go-with-the-flow, and others are a little more structured—and honestly, both have their place. Today, I thought I’d share a simple but meaningful homeschool schedule we used recently that brought a great mix of learning, faith, and reflection. If you’re a Christian homeschool mama looking for a rhythm that keeps things focused without feeling rigid, this might be just the inspiration you need.

Our Homeschool Day at a Glance

Here’s how our day was structured, with a few thoughts along the way:

Math

We started the day with 2 pages in our math workbook. This gives us a solid foundation without overwhelming anyone first thing in the morning. I like keeping math short and consistent—it helps build confidence.

I’ve tried longer curriculum choices and it just seems to end in tears. No one really learned anything through the day and everyone fights me to do math each day! It honestly wasn’t worth it! I rather do shorter lessons and know that they are grasping the material!

Science

Today’s science block was a mix of review and discovery. We finished up yesterday’s work and then watched a video about ocean animals that tied right in. I love using short educational videos to bring a lesson to life—plus, it gives me a moment to switch laundry or refill my coffee.

Tip: Look for documentaries or clips from creation-based science series if you want faith-friendly options! That is something that I choose to include in our homeschool but I know that not everyone does.

Bible Time

We’re currently going through Tim Tebow’s Bible study, and I cannot recommend it enough for families with kids and teens. It’s relatable, Scripture-filled, and perfect for conversations about character and calling. We read a chapter and discussed what it means to live boldly for Christ.

Journaling Prompt

After Bible, we journaled:

“What is something you did this week that was really good? What can you do to keep making good choices?”

These little moments of reflection help my kids think about their actions, heart, and growth—and it opens the door to deeper conversations. Plus, it’s a great way to practice writing in a low-pressure, personal way.

I love doing journal after Bible because they still have the scripture fresh in their minds! This helps them to think through not only how they can be a better person but a better steward for Christ! If you include Bible in your homeschool this is a great thing to do right after!

These journals are my kids favorite because they can decorate the cover with drawings or stickers and make it their own:

English

We started a new packet in English, focusing on grammar and writing mechanics. We didn’t rush—just a steady start to a longer-term packet we’ll keep working through this week.

I typically give each child a packet on their own level but that is similar to the other kids so that they all feel like they are working together even though they are quietly working independently. This has made my kids feel like they aren’t alone and encouraged them all to work hard.

Reading

To wrap up our structured time, we did:

  • 2 pages in the reading workbook (phonics + comprehension)
  • 30 minutes of independent reading

I let them choose their own books from our home library, the public library or the current read-alouds we’re rotating through. Bonus points if it’s something that ties into history, science or Bible!

Reading Resource:

One reading series we have absolutely loved for read aloud time is Beyond the Orphan Train and you can find it here:

Why I Loved This Schedule

  • It felt balanced: enough work to stay productive, but not overwhelming.
  • It included faith at the center: Bible study + journaling helped shape their hearts.
  • It made room for connection and flexibility: especially with the video and journaling time.
  • It wasn’t rushed: which is important in our home where grace sets the tone.

I only have one child left at home still in school so our days look different now but I cherished this time so much! I wish I could go back to having all three kids back around the kitchen table working! God really blessed me with being a mother and a homeschool teacher!

Encouragement for You

You don’t need a Pinterest-perfect schedule to have a successful homeschool day. What matters most is that you’re pointing your kids to Christ, making room for meaningful learning, and showing up with love—even if things go off-track now and then.

This schedule worked beautifully for us today, and I hope it gives you a helpful framework or idea to adapt for your own home!
